A 2018 paper in anesthesiology by Everett et al. gives us a framework for what to consider the post-operative period. Delirium represents a change from baseline and tends to fluctuate during the course of the day. As we'll see, some of the meta-analyses in the studies that we look at have slightly different definitions of what exactly post-operative delirium is.
