The Paradox of Pleasure
There's a lot we could read about, for instance, why is tragedy pleasurable? Why would we ever be pleased by watching a bunch of bad things happen to people? I'm thinking of some psychoanalytic aesthetics as well. There's one theory that beauty and interest are at cross purposes with each other. The more beautiful something is, the less interesting and the more evocative of death it is.
