Historian Ronald Tutton says there was a Mary England before the Reformation. The church encouraged her to marry because it was good for community spirit, he says. He adds that in this late medieval period from about 1350 to sort of 1550 roughly or 1535, just before the reformation, there actually was a MaryEngland.
