The Social Worker's Permission to Interrupt
I love that idea that there's the social worker has permission to interrupt because in that Stanley conference it's quite a highly pressurized environment. The freedom to say I'm sorry can we just stop a second and turn to the patient and say did you understand what the doctor just said to you is very powerful, she says. She also talks about how often health workers take on the role of bearer of bad news for family members who may not be able to expect their loved one will receive treatment they need.
