The Importance of Principle in Politics
James Carville: I'm picturing dual models of leadership if you want to call it that. One is leading by principle and the other is leading by issue. The problem with forming a platform in that fashion is that it's easy to pick a whole suite of issues that you or your constituents like, but end up with these issues fundamentally conflicting. He says we have Schumer who believes in federalism when it comes to marijuana, but doesn't believe in federalist when it Comes to green laser pointers. And he says an institutional government that can give people what they want regardless of the cost probably will fall apart over the long term.
