Jefferson's Inaction on Burr's Plan to Invade Mexico
On October 22, 1806, President Jefferson assembled his cabinet. He informed them of an audacious plot to rebel against the United States led by former Vice President Aaron Burr. The president and his cabinet decided to take a more measured approach. They would send warning letters to the Orleans and Mississippi territories; assign a government agent to follow Burr.
