In March of 2018, reports from The Guardian and The New York Times revealed that Cambridge Analytica had harvested the personal information of quote, around 50 million Facebook users without permission. This revelation came from a whistleblower named Christopher Wiley, WYLI, who states that he helped build the firm and worked there until 2014. According to the New York Times, it was launched with $15 million of seed money, backing money, by billionaire Republican donor Robert Mercer and Steve Bannon.
