verse two presents us with an image of the evenness, whiteness and fullness of a woman's smile. But as exam observes, the image is so elaborated that it soon overshadows its reference. Gilead has rich and blessed pasture land, and is itself a place of remarkable natural beauty. Through this choice of metaphor, the man might be comparing thebeauty of the land with the beauty of the woman. The connotations of the images are no less important.
