The Black Death in Europe
Medieval medicine is not something I'd wish even on my worst enemy. Largely driven by superstition and religion, doctors during this time were as clueless as their patients about health care. All in all, the setting for the Black Death was gray and dismal with a population half starved and surrounded by rats and filth. In other words, it was perfect for a pandemic.
