The Importance of Flexibility in Teaching
I don't think it's necessary that individuals remain flexible mentally for an arbitrary amount of time, not human nature. This is very dangerous when you get disciples that are unable to question their overlords anymore. And these disciples begin to dominate a field because this is toxic to the development of new ideas. As long as you have enough diversity of ideas in the field, you take them as important steps in the intellectual development of a discipline. Then Chomsky thinking the wrong thing about linguistics is not a problem at all, right? Or Minsky talking about neural networks should not be a problem as long as there are enough other people which believe that cybernetics would be continued to be explored.
