New York Philharmonic associate principal Michael Vasilevsky talks about his unusual path to the job. He says he was inspired by a recording of Maurice Alard, probably the most famous bassoon player of the 20th century. But after studying with him in Paris for two years, he got homesick and moved back to New York City. "My life was so different than the majority of the people I wanted to travel with,"vasilevsky says.
