Culture Is All Around Us, but We're Not Thinking About It

I've begun to think of culture more and more as an operating system. It's at the level of cultural norms that we're all being ruled by, even if we don't think about norms explicitly. Most people don't spend a lot of time thinking about norms. And so much of what we care about and what we are outraged by, it's just all governed by stuff that's outside of us.
