In ancient Rome, the ruling class owned slaves. Anytime they fancied it, that was completely normal. We would not consider that to be common sense today. And so what's happened is we've accidentally secularized ourselves almost. I think we tried to fill the gap with this scientific materialism. It doesn't work beyond a certain point because it has to continually deny what we can all see in front of our faces.
