June tenth is the day that we commemorate the eman ation of enslaved black people in america. In 18 63, abraham lincoln signed the emancipation proclamation to abolish slavery. Two years later, one of the last groups of enslaved folks in galveston, texas were informed. The following year, the first jJune tenth celebrations took place in texas. And as of 20 21, j June nineteenth is now a federal holiday.
