Jesus tells us in luke 24 that we must see the old testament in light of him. But it's one thing for jesus to just say it. It's another thing for him to actually give us an example. In john, after feeding the five thousand, he sits down with these disciples and begins to teach them about that he is the bread of life. Fascinating form of a sermon there. I believe it was very similar, i in terms of structure and form, to many of the synagogue sermons that we have from the early centuries.
