Ballerophon and the Flying Pegasus

In the story of dadalus, his son icarus tries to take off on their own. But as he flies higher and higher in the sky, Dadalus' wings begin to melt. He makes a safe landing but there are no other legends about him taking off again. This theme is echoed in the myth of bellerophon and the flying pegasus. In this tale, zeus sends a gadfly to sting Belerphon for daring to fly with Pegasus. The olympians then decide that human beings can't handle flight properly.
