Do I Want to Be a Police Officer?
I think the fact that he was a cop when I was a kid had a lot to do with it, especially at that time. My dad joined the NYPD in 1983 and we still had two close family friends lose their lives in the line of duty to an unarmed black man. So you know these are experiences that certainly colored my work. In the end I probably made the right decision not becoming a cop but I do worry about a world in which people with higher degrees of education or more ambition don't take that kind of job.
