The Importance of Standardization in Chinese

Chinese seem to have learnt from Japan or when it comes to modernizing the country is this idea of simplifying the script and standardizing the pronunciation something that later happened in China in the 20th century. Japanese looked at Germany and what it had done for language reforms and adopted many of those ideas themselves. The idea of taking the dialect that was spoken in the capital and making that the standard pronunciation for the whole country so the whole country could become literate has been amazingly successful because China has come from where it was to where it is now.
