Hawkes Bay is the first region to reach a cost sharing deal with councils. It will help rebuild transport infrastructure and provide $70 million in flood protection for wide ore. But there are still hundreds of homes across Hawkes Bay, Tied Arfati and Auckland with category three status meaning owners will be offered a buyout option. Cyclone Recovery Minister Grant Robertson explains how much individual homeowners will receive. The exact way that they do that will be down to those local authorities. We set at the outset that the government could not pay for everything here.
