There's a correlation between ability to think abstractly and giving the utilitarian answer on dilemmas like the trolley problem. People with more analytical, metacognitive ability are more likely to say "let's push the guy off the bridge" It seems that after you pass a certain threshold of ability to reason analytically, there's sort of mixed effects where it can allow you to rationalize or bypass empathy in favor of an overall utilitarian solution.
