I do think you can find a good friend anywhere, at any age of your life. So it's not to say you have to have friends that are like, you know, perfect in every scenario. You just have to make sure you are aware of why you've chosen them and what they are capable of. Like romance, befriend others based on shared strengths, not shared weaknesses. If the majority of your time spent together is in the discussing of problems, then it's not going to feel like a joyful relationship.
