Gold is a pretty good hedge in that kind of situation. And it's worked very well this year yand it's held its value pretty well. If you think things are about to turn round, or if you're a long term invester then this has produced an opportunity to buy equity at low prices. Any money which you're going to be putting aside for a long period of time, it makes a lot of sense to buy equity when that happens. For example, defensives typically do well during a recession. So what are defensives? These are companies which produce stuff that you have to buy, even if you haven't got much money in your pockets.
