I think people got scared because during WWDC, Johnny Saruji very specifically said a family of SOCs. You like you lose the flexibility of picking your own parts, but you gain advantages like universal memory. There's literally no bus between everything that's happening on that chip. So the speed is ridiculous. But what I think Apple's going to do is what they showed us with the Mac Pro. Right now it has a CPU. It has an Intel Xeon CPU in it and it has AMD graphics cards. But you could still replace that with an SOC and then have a whole bunch of things. Like they have an ASIC card now afterburner that just accelerates ProRes.
