The Golden Bow and the Kingship
The attitude of antiquity towards sacrifice is something I don't think we can appreciate fully. Frasier in the golden bow made the point that the prime sacrifice in the old early kingships was the king himself. The group of dancing female figures with griffon heads is associated with the goddess, possibly the one who distinguishes or judges the mortal from the immortal part. In this system the experiential is often associated with the vegetable world, a motif that later returns in the Greek mysteries.
