The Importance of Semiconductors in India

India's semiconductor consumption has been growing at a very fast rate with almost, I think, increased 3 trillion crore of imports every year. But we still fail to lack our own semiconductor fabs and we rely heavily on imports from other countries, especially China. This poses a challenge for India's self-reliance and security goals, as well as its aspirations to become a global leader in artificial intelligence. To address this challenge, the Union government set up the Indian-semiconductor mission which is a specialized independent northern agency to implement schemes for this vision.
