The Middle Positions of Middle Earth

The structure of the board is one you know of unknowable high intelligences playing some weird you know chess game of reality. Tolkien starts out with what's going to become the Middle Earth legendarium thinking through like it's very indebted to like Northern European mythological cycles of like warrior society kind of thing. How do we go from sort of the warrior culture to that to like I mean Tolkien's reception to the reception of his works?
