The Future of Neural Networks
Most of the work I did in neural networks back in the day was based on the assumption that no, you can't just train a big random kind of incoherent formless blank slate neural network to do anything. On the other hand, Gary Marcus might be right that you actually need a radically different approach. But at this point, I don't know. It wouldn't surprise me that much if GPT eight or nine proved to be able to do pretty much everything that humans can do without having a whole bunch of intrinsic structure. One way or another, the AI companies will figure out how to do AGI. If we give them the money and the talent and the resources and the social
