The Difference Between Sham and Guilt
Anthropologists have long noticed that there are shame based societies, where shame is really the governing emotion. This contrasts with more guilt base societies, where there's lots of different rules around. And so a couple dfferent ways to measure this, but it seems like there's a lot of variability in the degree to which society is guiltory. The same action cause either guilt or shame. But like any experiment, you can pull them apart by saying, you know, either people do something and no one will never know, or you make someone else do something. That's a personal standard versus a communal standard.
