The amount of innocent people that died at the hands of the mongols is incalculable,. And no one can ever know how much untold misery and human suffering they caused in their thirst for empire and expansion. To some the mongol peace was a time of thriving trade, tolerance and technological innovation. For others, according to one venetian historian, it was a pece of smoking ruins.
