The Second Desmond Rebellion

In 15 58, part of ireland was solely under english control. The province of munster saw two major rebellions against english rule. In the first desmond rebellion, sir humphrey gilbert decapitated civilians who supported the rebels and then display their heads on pikes along the path to his tent. Walter raleigh served with the english army during several engagements in the second desmond rebellion. But the most notorious of these engagements was the siege of smerwick. About 600 people were massacred after this siege - about a hundred of them were women and children. This was 100% how england dealt with rebels at the time.
