The Importance of Perception

In more fundamental aspects of perception, even knowing that our expectations change how we view things doesn't mean we'll be able to see things differently. For example, to bring it back to color, I'm looking at an orange mug. Apart from the handle, there's one solid color all the way around. But my brain just precedes them as one color because it takes in the context around it.
