The Importance of Democracy in the United States

"I started studying populism. I was originally looking at Chile, trying to explain why despite some of their economic successes, they had so many problems with mass bouts of contentious politics," he says. "What I realized was populism is endemic to the United States and that's what really motivated me to get into this project" He adds: "You see it in all these other places throughout the world, but I've seen it here."
