The Rise of Lesbian Divorce

More lesbian couples are filing for divorce than gay men. In the netherlands 15% of gay civil partnerships failed, compared with 30% of lesbian ones. Two thirds of divorces initiated by women in the past ten years. Many women prevented from filing for divorce by fear of violence that often follows separation from an abusive and controlling man. Women also worry about who will manage the burden of child care.
