The Process of Breathing
Breathing consists of two phases, inhalation and exhalation. Breathing is something that is modulated by the diaphragm and the intercostal muscles. The purpose of these is to modulate the pressure so that breathing can occur. We sometimes think about breathing as a sort of sucking in air. But you don't need to do that in order to breathe. If stop for more than a few minutes at a time, you will die.
