Is VR in the Slope of Enlightenment?

In the hype cycle, you could argue that VR is currently in the slope of enlightenment. While it's more popular than it was in the 90s, it has not achieved mainstream adoption. The smartphone is definitely in the plateau of productivity phase. Each generation of iPhone has at least some improvements over previous generations.
