The New York Times Is Not Calling on the US Government to Drop the Hacking Related Charges
Julian Assange did not himself steal or hack government servers in any way to get the information that he published on WikiLeaks. It was given to him by Chelsea Manning, a former army intelligence analyst who had downloaded them from Sipernet and decided to send them to WikiLeaks. So this is not about stuff that happened. The letter notably does not call on the US government to drop the hacking related charge.
