The colonies are a key site of the development of sexuality, both in terms of serving as zones where metropolitan people can kind of live out often very racialized sexual fantasies and desires. The idea of the book is how do we intervene then into a queer public history that is still pride month listicles and Instagram card stacks about the great gay heroes of all time? It's not an uncomplicated or unproblematic set of assumptions, but it is one that gets made.
