The Importance of Anselm's Letters
Anselm has this idea that there's a kind of spiritual union that happens between two souls through love. This is all throughout the Christian tradition and even goes back to some pagan thinkers as well. And so one of the recurrent motifs in Anselm's letters is this sense of agony at a geographical separation from this person because their souls have been united in love yet they're geographically separate, he says.
