The EA's Argument for Altruism

Will McCaskill's first book doing good better is called EA 101. In it he argues that existing ways of addressing the problems of suffering people elsewhere get this wrong and not only fail to address the relevant problems but actually make matters worse by their intervention. He says if your story or justification story for what you're doing doesn't include the theories of the people you're trying to help then even if you're right I object to that whole thing in principle because it's not treating people as people. The idea is to do as well or better than existing non-EA type charities who are motivated by different philosophies.
