The Battle of the Golden Horn

After nearly seven weeks of siege, no Ottoman soldier had yet set foot in the city. An attempt to mine the walls and to bridge the huge moat in front of the Theodosian city walls resulted in failure. Mehmet announced plans for an all-out assault on the walls to take place on Tuesday, May 29. He told his ministers and commanders that it had been a sacred duty of the faithful to capture the Christian capital.
