Many of the most galitarian ideas about the foundations of our republic begin life in significant measure as a critique from the point of view of these first state constitutions, which were radically democratic for their day. So that worry, which first animated the anti federalists, goes on almost seriv overnight,. When the constitution is ratified, what had been a cratique and galetarian tique of the proposed constitution becomes instead, part and parcel of one interpretation of what the constitution meant and required.
