The Acute Approach to Rapid Response
The patient was extubated in the immune serum by the anesthesia team. About 10 minutes later is when we get pulled to see her because she's settling into the ED. She has recurrent severe agitation, pulling at lines and not maintaining as well. The only medication she was taking was sertraline for depression. And that means she may have excess serotonin in her system leading to serotonin syndrome.
