An aposematic mechanism is a common way that you'll see it written. It just means that it has these capabilities for a defense or that it's somehow toxic or noxious or not a good idea to predate upon. Now that phenomenon will always remind me of the Prometheus movie when the biologist encounters an alien creature clearly displaying aposemitism like warning I'm dangerous and of course he gets in its grill and gets killed.
