Is There a Global Snowballing of Climate Change?

The story around tipping points is less a global snowballing of climate change and more a series of very impactful regional effects that can happen as the earth warms. The lower latitude areas start thawing faster than the higher latitudes, so north facing surfaces thaw faster than south facing surfaces. A lot of these systems that we call in points are characterized by a historesis which means that once you start changing it's much more difficult to reverse it. So ice sheets are a good example where you could have very rapid ice sheet loss in places like antarctic and greenland regions.
