Saints philip's episcopal church was a congregation that traces its history back to the year 18 o nine. They were situated at seventh avenue and 20 fifth street, so like right on the edge of the tenderloin. Now, there had traditionally been smaller churches catering to black congregates here in harlem,. tracing back as far as the 18 thirties. But saint philip's was very significant because this was where the wealthiest, most prominent black families went to church in the late nineteenth century.
