We are quickly moving toward a time where there will be an even faster transition from thought to speech to motor output. What I'm referring to here is some of the incredible work of our colleagues Eddy Chang at UCSF and others who are learning to translate electrical signals of neurons in various areas, including speech and language areas. In other words, paralyzed people can put their thoughts on into writing. That's a pretty extreme and wonderful example of recovery of function that is sure to continue to evolve. But I think we are headed toward a time not too long from now where my thoughts can be translated into words on a page if I allow that to happen.
