George lucas and francis ford copolan were two of the first generation of film students to break through in hollywood. The pair founded american zootrope, a group that would help young filmmakers make their own films without interference from Hollywood suits. In 19 69 they produced t h x 11 38, which was released by columbia pictures at the height of the hippy movement. A disastrous screening led to them being forced to step down as co-founders after just three years.
