The wines that most of us drink are just in sort of everyday way are probably called chardonnay or serving on blanc or cabernet or merlot and they may well be coming from great swathes of mostly france but to some extent spain and italy california a lot from central valley in california. If you want to make a sweet one with a few gram de sugar in it more people will buy it at a lower level so you get a broader and flatter look. That's not what the new world does in spain or in france or in italy that brings in extremely focused hygienic quality and detail obsessed winemaking
