Ground Hog Day

Ground hog day is actually the one remaining remnant within american popular culture of a very important holy day. In the orthodox church, we call it the meeting of the lord in the temple. It's sometimes referred to as the purification of the blessed virgin mary. The reason it's called candlemus is because this is the day in the christian tradition when you traditionally e you get a whole bunch of candles and then you bring them to the church.
