The Roman Empire and the Urbanization of Palestine
In the lifetime of Jesus, the Roman Empire is the largest and most expansive political and imperial entity that has ever existed. And all of Palestine was under either indirect or direct control of Roman power depending on which part you were looking at. So as well as there being a kind of class conflict erupting here, this could also be coded in different kind of cultural understandings between, say,Roman ideas and Jewish ideas. That I hope we get to explore.
